The Third Crusade
Religion
The Third Crusade was called by the Pope, but was Richard I's joining in the Crusade the right decision?
The Catholic Church believes that the Pope is infallible, meaning that it technically was virtuous for Richard I to follow Pope Clement III's call for the Third Crusade.
At the time, Richard was seen as a very religious and holy King, a loyal servant of God.
However; the Catholic Church also believes that killing is wrong, and have very specific requirements for a war to be considered acceptable and justified.
The Third Crusade did not fill out all of these requirements, meaning that the Third Crusade was not worth it from a Catholic religious viewpoint.
